1912
A boy named Harry Victor White, 12 years of age, who had been taught at school, as part of his commercial education, to draw cheques, was charged at the Elham Petty Sessions on Thursday with forging a cheque for £4 10s. He had been employed lately as a houseboy by a lady named Horton, living in Elham. Obtaining his mistress's cheque book, he took out a cheque, signed it with Miss Horton's name, and cashed it a local tradesman's. The Bench ordered him to receive six strokes with the birch.
