 1841 Elected to Elham Charity School The Bootshoe Boys
 1842 Expelled from Elham Charity School for absenting himself. His mother treated the matter with great indifference and with impertinence towards Mr. Hoggins. When she refused to apologise the Trustees decided on expulsion as a warning to other scholars. The Bootshoe Boys
